NIHR Academy
Our trainees also have access to the opportunities available through the NIHR Academy, which aims to support research capacity development now and in the future.
The NIHR Academy provides a diverse range of award opportunities for research and career development focussed on improving the health and wealth of the nation. This includes funding for research studies, academic training, career development and research capability development.
Our trainees are eligible to apply for the following development opportunities through NIHR Academy:
SPARC scheme
The SPARC scheme allows early stage researchers supported by an NIHR Infrastructure or NIHR School to spend time in other parts of the NIHR. The scheme is specifically designed to foster collaboration and enhance the researcher’s early career and CV. The placement is funded by awards of up to £5,000 per individual.
Visiting Speaker Awards
The NIHR Visiting Speaker Award (VSA) offers NIHR Academy Members based in the NIHR Infrastructure the opportunity to present their research and network with other parts of the NIHR Infrastructure.
The purpose of the award is to encourage networking and collaboration within the NIHR and help researchers gain valuable experience of the presenting their research.
We are inviting NIHR Academy Members in the NIHR Infrastructure who are fully or partly funded to apply for up to £500 to support the costs of going to present their work in another NIHR Infrastructure centre. Applicants can come from, or go to:
- Biomedical Research Centres (BRC)
- Applied Research Collaborations (ARCs)
- Patient Safety Translational Research Centres (PSTRCs)
- NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPHR)
- NIHR School for Public Health Research (SSCR)
- NIHR School for Social Care Research (SSCR)
