Newcastle BRC Director to present at NIHR conference
Professor Avan Sayer will deliver keynote address at the NIHR Academy Members’ Conference this year.
The conference will take place online on 23 and 24 November 2021. The title for this year’s conference is “Improving the lives of people with multiple long-term conditions through research”. This is one of NIHR’s areas of strategic focus as outlined in the recently published “Best Research for Best Health: The Next Chapter”.
Professor Avan Sayer and her team within the Newcastle BRC’s Ageing Syndromes Theme are committed to research around multiple long-term conditions. This work helps to raise awareness of this health challenge overall. It also seeks to improve the lives of people living with more than one condition in later life. See here for an overview of this work
Like the NIHR Academy, the NIHR Newcastle BRC is committed to training the next generation of clinical academics. There are significant challenges for the health and social care system in England with regards to people seeking care for age-related and multiple long-term conditions. As such, this theme is timely for the conference, as well as being a key focus for the Newcastle BRC.
This year’s event offers an impressive line up of speakers. Professor Waljit Dhillo, newly appointed Dean for the NIHR Academy will open the conference. Other speakers include Professor Lucy Chappel, CEO of the NIHR, and Professor Sir Michael Marmot. See full agenda here
