Funding available for healthcare professionals

The NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Centre plans to fund a small number of partial scholarships for the Clinical Research with Older People MSc module starting in January 2020.

For those who are not at the stage of being able to make a commitment to a full-time Masters Programme or PhD, this scholarship will allow an introduction to clinical research with older people. This MSc module is part of Newcastle University’s MSc in Clinical and Health Sciences with Ageing and awards 20-credits at postgraduate Masters level.

This funding is to encourage healthcare professionals with an interest in the health of older people and in clinical research to consider further academic opportunities. The award offers £600 towards the cost of tuition fees and is open to all UK healthcare professionals. We would particularly welcome applications from nurses and Allied Health Professionals.

Previous scholarships have described this experience as;

“The module gave me an opportunity to develop my academic skills and I have grown in confidence and feel well placed to continue with further study”

Physiotherapist, Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Trust

“The most interesting aspect of the module has been interacting with research articles – beginning to learn the skills required to read, understand and interpret findings, consider the results in the context of additional research and understand how cumulative results evidence thinking re future projects”

Research Nurse, Gateshead NHS Trust

“I feel I will be able to take the learning from this module and work with our clinical research lead to help improve research processes within my team. The module has increased my awareness of research study design and in particular recruitment strategies for under-represented groups”

Dietitian, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust
