An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chief Operating Officer to join the NIHR Newcastle BRC

Salary: £49,149 – £56,950

The NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is looking to appoint an exceptional individual to take up the post of Chief Operating Officer. The NIHR Newcastle BRC is a significant funding award (£16.2M) from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University.

The NIHR Newcastle BRC has a broad remit to support experimental medicine and translational research across five main research themes (Dementia, Liver Disease, Musculoskeletal Disease, Neuromuscular Disease and Skin & Oral Disease) to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Ageing Syndromes such as Sarcopenia, Frailty and Multimorbidity. The NIHR Newcastle BRC is part of a comprehensive national network of 20 BRCs across England and a central pillar in the delivery of clinical research in Newcastle.

This is a high-profile position and a key leadership role within the NIHR Newcastle BRC, wider R&D delivery across the partnership and research networks nationally. The post-holder will support the Director in the development and implementation of the BRC strategy and have direct responsibility and leadership for the full local and national delivery remit of the BRC. The post-holder will provide expert operations including research programme management, significant financial oversight and necessary performance monitoring as well as representing the NIHR Newcastle BRC locally and nationally.

The successful applicant will be educated to a degree level with significant managerial experience in a similar high-profile role. Individuals must be able to clearly demonstrate strong leadership and management qualities with significant experience in strategic planning, operational management, financial management, and exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to work within a world-leading clinical and academic partnership to drive forward translational research in ageing and long-term conditions.
