Skin and Oral Disease: About
A new theme to the NIHR Newcastle BRC, Skin and Oral Disease has made excellent progress against its short and medium-term objectives, and has secured significant external funding to support advancement towards its longer-term objectives. Our strategy is to incorporate cutting-edge single cell technologies and assessment of the microbiome in order to re-define the pathogenesis of skin and oral diseases. Our well-characterised patient registries and specialised clinical services in psoriasis, atopic eczema and periodontitis provide an ideal platform for these investigations.
Muzz Haniffa leads the Skin and Oral Disease research theme. She is Professor of Dermatology and Immunology, an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist, a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Science, and a Lister Institute Prize Fellow. Deputy Theme Lead Nick Reynolds is Professor of Dermatology and a Honorary Consultant Dermatologist.
