Professor Burn leads the Dementia research theme. He is also Professor of Movement Disorder Neurology and Pro-Vice Chancellor for the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University. Additionally he is Honorary Consultant Neurologist with the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Chair of the NIHR Dementia Translational Research Collaboration, and an NIHR Senior Investigator.
David’s research aims to improve the diagnosis and management of Parkinson’s, the Lewy body dementias and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He has played a key role in International Task Forces to develop diagnostic criteria for dementia associated with Parkinson’s and mild cognitive impairment associated with Parkinson’s. He has played a major part in the development and evaluation of new treatments for patients with movement disorders.
