Helen is an academic hepatologist, looking after patients with primary liver cancer. Her long-term goal is to improve outcomes for these patients, in part by developing tools to detect their cancers earlier, but also by identifying novel therapeutic candidates to take forward into clinical use, alongside the biomarkers needed to implement them.
Helen’s clinical role is that of lead physician within the Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, co-ordinating the care of patients with hepatocellular cancer in Northern England. She is part of the Newcastle University Clinical and Translational Research Institute and the Newcastle University Centre for Cancer, where she leads the hepatobiliary research.
She is the Principal Investigator for the Newcastle BRC-funded project, ‘TELehealth EXercise for patients with primary liver cancer: TELEX-Liver Cancer’
