Miles Witham is Professor of Trials for Older People at Newcastle University, working closely with the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre.
His research focuses on improving physical function and quality of life for older people, using a wide range of interventions, including pharmacological agents, nutrition, exercise and strategies of care.
Improving the translation of discoveries from laboratory ageing science and the epidemiology of ageing into clinical practice is a key aim for the Newcastle BRC Ageing theme. As part of this work, Professor Witham is developing a programme of trials to test interventions targeting sarcopenia as an exemplar for future work targeting multiple long-term conditions and the biological processes underpinning ageing
